Ram to CPU ratio

What would be a good amount of ram these days? I upgraded from a celeron 450mhz with 128megs of ram so I'm a bit behind... I now have an amd xp 2100+ (1.74ghz) and bought 256megs of ram for it. I was hoping the price of ram would drop and it did but now its going back up 🙁

Anyway what is a good amount to compliment that cpu? I don't really want to waste money on too much ram that I wouldn't really put to use. I can tell I need more than what I have, but 256 more? 512 more? It's pc3200 stuff.

Sorry, thought I included that.

I don't do that much gaming, but I will occasionally load up rise of nations or wolfenstein. I only have a geforce2 and I'm not that much of a gamer. I use it mostly for everything else like surfing chating music etc.

btw i use winxp

I would say another 256 would be all that you'd need.
Buy same brand, specs, that you have so you can use
or upgrade to dual channel.
