RAM timings

I am on AMD motherboard that only allows PC3200 RAM....Anyways, What role do timings on RAM sticks play, say for photoshop. Would it be wiser to have 4GB of say...4-4-6-8 instead of having only 2GB of something like 2-2-2-5? Can I actually feel the difference between having 2GB of fast memory or 2GB of slow?
The price difference between those sticks can be as much as $400. I just not sure if it's worth it.

I am also curious what the difference is. Are lower numbers better or worse?

Also, if you mix timings, do they all run at the slowest RAM's speed or do they run at their individual speeds?

i think it would depend on how much you need the extra ram, or how big your files are that your working with. 4gb would cost twice as much so i would factor that in too 😉

You can easy buy "value" RAM,some 1GB sticks cost as much as 4GB. This is why I am questioning. Is it better to have 1-2gb of ram that costs $400 or 4gb for $300.

I would think that you can overcome the latency issue by overclocking the CPU by 70 to 90 MHz. Paying big $ for RAM is never a good idea.
