Ram timings

I have an Asus P4C800-E but this question is in general. If you have your bios set to SPD for ram timings, is there a way of telling what is actually being used? If I manually play with the settings, it is easy to corrupt the bios on this mobo and when I sped up timings a bit (from the default settings), I did not see any difference in machine performance. This would leave me to believe that the spd setting is doing a fairly good job. I would just like to know what it chose.
