Ram SPEED

I am buying a Asus CUSL2 with 800EB 133 processor. I want to install 256 or 128 MB ram. Was wondering which to use. there are CL3 or CAS3 and CL2 or CAS2 (i take they mean the same thing). I am confused whether to get the CAS2 or CAS3 memory. the CAS2 is more expensive than the CAS 3 memory and budget is an issue.. Also is it better to go (2) 128 or (1) 256MB chip.. I dont think I will be going over 256MB....

thanks

Cas2 is about 10% faster than Cas3 and it's better if you plan to overclock the FSB. Whether it's worth paying for 10% faster is a matter of debate. If your budget minded then Cas3 PC133 should do you fine.
As for whether it's better to have 2-128MB DIMM's or 1-256MB DIMM, there is no performance difference between either way. Ourchasing 2-128MB DIMM might be cheaper but the single 256MB DIMM would leave more slots free for future upgrades.

Actually from the benchmark, depending on what you run, CAS2 is almost not that much faster, 1% - 3% but different application goes up to the 8%-10%

But I rather have speed... 1 Stick of 256MB CAS2 RAM @ PC133..
I actually have 2 512MB registered dimm for 1GB.. 4 slots.. have 2 empty for future upgrades.

Benchmark was at FiringSquad

I think I will order the Crucial Tech 256MB Cl2 ram for 307.49 with free shipping. I am just uneasy going with generics....the diff b/w cl3 and 2 is only 15$ as well.

THanks for the help.....
