Ram speed vs. Mobo

I've got an old Abit KR7A Raid Mobo (AMD 2000+ chip) with 512 Mb of 266 Mhz DDR. I'm in the process of spec'ing out a new rig and I was looking at the Corsair TwinX1024-3200XL Pro for it. Now this memory is DDR400 of course and my mobo only supports up to 266, so my question is this: Can I go ahead and buy my new RAM and throw it into this system for a quick boost before I have my whole new rig?

Thanks in advance.
