RAM speed still tied with i7 overclocking

With the i7, is the RAM speed still tied with how far you can overclock the processor?

I'm looking at this DDR3 1333 kit for a potential i7 build and am planning on a 3.6 - 4Ghz OC for a NLE machine.

Sort of. If the RAM doesn't clock well at all, then you can always go 2:6 on the divider for 1333 ram. This would make the max Bclk = 222 (or up to 4.4+Ghz), which is more than enough for the OC you are shooting for. If you want the normal 2:8, then 1600 RAM is better for the 200 Bclk.

There's always been the debate on latency versus speed, so I won't get into that here.

Most x58 boards let you force turbo mode on all the time effectively giving you a x21 multiplier on the cpu. 222x21 = 4662 mhz

Basically i have found that my uncore starts shitting bricks before my super budget crucial ram does...

Has anyone else noticed a slight spike of ddr3 prices? My ram has the exact same specs as yours but i got it for only $85 with no deals/rebates... I tried looking for it on the egg but they dont have it anymore... The closest thing to it is $110 and is cas 9 vs cas 7

Maybe 1156 is pushing up the prices of triple channel kits somehow?
