ram-sinks: Superglue and AS2/3 ???

hi,

anyone any experience putting bga sinks on rams (on a radeon 9800) with superglue on the corners and AS in the middle ???

I ordered these sinks with thermal tape (which i dont want to use), and i dont have ashesive...but i have AS2 left and read somewhere i can do that with superglue and AS2.

anmy recommendations ?

BAD IDEA! Superglue might damage your hardware (yanking a memory chip off) and not to mention being stuck on there forever. I would try some Artic Silver 3 Adhesive instead since that will probably do the job and probably won't cause any long-run problems.

use thermal epoxy, stay away from super glue

I use regular epoxy, mainly because, unlike superglue, it doesn't say "warning, highly flammable!" And I'd prefer not to put flammable things on hot chips.
Yes, I use 2-part epoxy and AS2/3 on ram - epoxy on the corners, AS on the middle. Yes, it's pretty permanent, depending of course on how much epoxy you use. I've already been able to remove heatsinks from chips without removing portions of the chip, but that's so far. It could still happen to me...but of course, I don't often remove a heatsink I've epoxied in place.
I have used this method to attach heatsinks to:
video RAM chips
video processors (a few TNT2 M64's mainly)
voltage regulators
clock generators
southbridges
northbridges

And I have already mixed up a bit of my own Arctic Alumina epoxy - AA and epoxy, mixed. It worked just fine too.
People tell me I should join Heatsinkers Anonymous. I just glue a heatsink to their foreheads, and walk away. I don't have a problem!!!

this is a pretty interesting thread, because i am getting my 9800NP soon..i ordered sinks...and i dont want to use that tape.

BUT....Arctic Silver Adhesive is permanent too - so the recommendation AS adhesive over superglue & AS doesnt make sense. Actually, the superglue/AS solution might be 'less' permanent than using the AS adhesive....

Epoxy sounds very interesting..so, you only put like four dots on the corners (BGA chips/sinks) and the rest a thin layer of AS ?

On the other hand i dont know/think that superglue (once it's dry) is flammable...if this would be the only argument against it and it turns out it is not flammable...the glue/AS solution could be ok otherwise...

btw. is the thermal tape (i got these OCZ aluminum bga sinks from SVC compucycle with thermal tape) really that bad ? All i need actually is that i dont fry my card when i flash it from 9800NP (3,3ns Samsung Ram) to PRO....would that be sufficient ? Or do i need hardcore cooling and should i get AS thermal adhesive instead ? (Another $12 more to spend...)
