Just got a gig of Corsair Value Select PC3200. I like their products and have had good luck with their ram. This, however, appears to be case of getting a bad stick or two from the factory. This is a kit of 2 512MB sticks.

Everytime I run memtest I get 2 errors in test #5. The ram is being installed in the rig in my sig. FSB is set 200mhz (both ram and cpu, ie they're insynch) The ram is in dimm slots #3 & #2 (for DC). Tried vdimm of 2.6v, then 2.7v. Both came up with errors in #5. Bought it from Newegg, their site says it should run Cas2.5 at 2.5v.

Have the ram set to "SPD" on timings. BIOS reflects timings of 2.5-3-3-8.

I'm not interested in trying Cas 3.0, or going any higher on vdimm, cuz I want the product to perform as advertised.

Is there something I may be overlooking, or should I rma.?

Thanks

If you loads of errors in Memtest test 5 only, with every other test absolutely fine, then this could be a compatability problem.

This is a particular problem with Nforce series motherboards - as they are terribly fussy about RAM. Just because it's brand-name PC3200 doesn't mean it will work - in particular, 'value' brands tend to have more problems. I built a set of identical PCs with Nforce mobos - all had this problem, in the end I had to try 3 or 4 different brands of RAM before I found a brand the systems were reasonably happy with (Crucial).

The first thing to do is to return the RAM as faulty. However, if your replacements show the same problem, then you may need to exchange them for an alternate brand.

Thanks guys.

I rma'd it and will be replacing it with some Corsair XMS (top shelf stuff as opposed to the value select line)
