For the everyday Joe, what is the advantage of getting higher priced name brand ram over Samsung? I personally have always bought Samsung or Infineon ram....and have never had any reliability problems

This thread is meant for PC's that will not be overclocked.

What kind of speed difference is there (noticable to the eye) between CL3/2.5/2 ??

I am interested in building a solid performance PC in the next few months, and am wondering about this ram topic. Since I don't O/C....why spend $40+ on Corsair PC-3200 over Samsung PC3200?

I'm not saying I won't buy the high brand name ram....this is why I'm posting, I would just like to know the difference if say, I bought Corsair XMS or Value Select or whatever PC3200 over Samsung

Please post:)

make sure it is true DDR400 you are buying

come to think of it i dont think i've seen any DDR400 samsung chips/ samsung PCB lately so i don not know if they even sell them

definitely get the infineon then if you are sure they are 5.0 ns chips then you will probly get better than corsair value select

they all use 5.0 ns chips if they are true ddr 400

corsair only tests these modules to run at pc3500 or 3700 speeds but IMO you are better off getting any kind of true 5.0 ns chips over corsair value because corsair value has probably been tested and wont overclock much at all wheres the infineon you might be able to hit pc3700 speed though they have just not been tested at those speeds

just stay away from places that remark pc2700 chips as pc3200

For non-overclocked systems, I've always used Samsung Original PC3200 RAM and have had no problems running at PC3200 speeds.

I notice you point to NCIX, so do you get the Samsung RAM from there? It says Samsung OEM there.

I know that the places I go to seperate Samsung Originals and Samsung OEM. I'm not sure if there's a difference but I've always used the Originals.

But now when I think about it, I think they're the same.

The Kingston ValueRAM I see locally also uses Samsung chips. I'd also like to know if there's a difference between Samsung sticks and Kingston sticks using Samsung RAM.
