Ram running pc5700 instead of pc6400 help

I have two sticks of pc6400 ram and at the current overclock that I am at the ram simply doesn't reach pc6400. It is really close but when I bump it up to 800mhz it freezes after windows boot.

Thanks,

Did you set the memory voltage properly in BIOS...?

800MHz usually requires ~2.0V minimum.

If that doesn't help, list all your hardware, OS, RAM brand and specs and we'll try again.

Ok, I was a little worried to mess with voltages, but it I have to bump it then I can. I am running an p5w dh deluxe mother board, c2d 4400 @ 3.16 ghz, 2gb of corsair 4-4-4-12 pc6400 ram, 550 watt rosewill power supply, 8800gt video card.

well, manufacturers really copped out. All the DDR-800 ram is pretty much overclocked chips. The DDR is supposed to be 1.8 volts according to the spec, but they are either doing 1.8 volts with loose timing. Or the achive good timing and require 2 to 2.2 volts to be stable.
4-4-4-12 is good timing, the is absolutely no way that this module would be rated for under 2 volts (although some specific modules might WORK at 1.8v, you are undervolting them when you do). It doesnt matter what company it is. if it is under 5-5-5-18 then it takes more then 1.8 volts.

Set your Corsair RAM to 2.1V (+0.3V in your BIOS I believe) and you should be fine.

Thanks a lot guys, I have been scared to do any voltage changes, but I have a lot of head room on my processor and was wondering if this could help me overclock it more also?

As you can see, I keep my E6600 overclocked to "only" 3.0GHz.

To me this is the best compromise between stability and performance, and personally I think you are fine at 3.16GHz.

But you're right, with faster, more stable RAM, you should be able to reach better CPU speeds, too.

Ok, I bumped the voltage to 2.1 and it ran until it locked up. In order to get it to pc6400 I have to raise the clock speed to 3.2ghz and it isn't stable there. Should I raise the voltage on the processor also or is something wrong why it isn't stable?

Ok I just got done, I have it running at 3.203 ghz, 400Mhz bus speed, 1601 fsb. I set the vcore up to 1.312V and the ram to 2.05 volts. It runs stable through super pi and temps are around 40 degrees celcius.
