You've got a decent system, but i kinda doubt you could tell the difference with that upgrade.

If you had an FX-55...sure, but not with what you have, unless you are OCing that Northwood like crazy & want to run the RAM 1:1?

Maybe a (very) slight difference in FPS. Hitching is usually caused by the system running out of memory and hitting the HD. If that's the case (with 1gb I really don't think so) then simply adding some more of the same memory should solve the problem.

If you upgrade to the same amount of faster RAM it's likely that you'll get a miniscule bump in FPS punctuated by the same hitches that you'd already be experiencing

What we are really saying is that more value RAM (4x512 MB total) would be a much better investment, expecially for BF2, which seems to devour RAM.

Would getting the same mod of RAM but two 256mb (2x256,2x512) be ok as well? Or what having 2 different amounts cause some instability?

Should work fine. You'd be filling up all your DIMM slots, leaving no room if you ever wanted to upgrade to 2gb, however.

Would having 2GB of RAM over 1GB improve the FPS in BF2. That is my main concern since I play this game competitively. It's annoying when sometimes you start getting the 25FPS.

Yeah moving up to 2GB should make a big imrovement when playing BF2, don't expect to see a real noticable imrovement in most other games though. BF2 is a memory hog, I haven't actually seen it use more then 800MB's but when you put into account the OS and other processes on your machine are usually taking like 256 right off the bat....then 2GB will make a great imrovement in BF2.

I would have thought the same thing. I just read this:

http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-x-2147-x-x-x&body_pagenum=5

It seems that there was very little performance increase. Even with or without high end CPU's. The game is extremely video card dependant. There is the 3 month delay for optimization and bug fixing at work for you . Most people don't have top notch video cards, they should be making games more CPU reliant.

But the GameSpy tests contradict with this:

So now I'm confused on what to believe.
