I'm going to purchase the Supermicro X9SCM-F. It takes DDR3 ECC Unbuffered RAM. It says "UDIMM" but I think this is the same as DIMMs?

Anyways... what are the cheapest compatible 8 GB sticks? Also, what about 2 GB sticks?

It seems like everything on NewEgg is "Registered" (buffered?) RAM which I don't think is compatible with the Supermicro board...

UDIMM is server-jargon for unregistered DIMMs which is standard consumer memory.
RDIMM is the corresponding jargon for Registered DIMMs.

You are correct that it will only take UDIMMs. AFAIK, there is no RDIMM support.

Ahhh, thanks!

Is it strange that NewEgg doesn't sell 8 GB sticks of unregistered ECC RAM? (They sell 2x 4 GB packs but not single 8 GB sticks of unregistered)

The current price for 8GB ECC UDIMMs are currently around the 200-400$ per unit mark.

Why in the world are you going to buy a server MB?
What CPU are you planning to use in this MB?
If you're set on buying a server MB, you should buy tested memory for that MB.

I'm buying a server board because I'm building a server. :)

It's just going to be for a home network/lab so I don't need anything too expensive...
