Ram recognition problems

I have the a Gigabyte SINXP1394 motherboard which takes upto 4 sticks of PC3200 DDR, and for the past three years I have had 512mb x 2 in one channel and 256mb x 2 in the other channel, hence getting the dual data rate (ie. single 128bit mode).

Suddenly the motherboard or bios has stopped recognise two of the banks of memory and it is apparent that it is the slots not the ram that is the problem. This occurred after changing the CPU heatsink which went flawlessly, with the usual precautions taken.

Is it possible that the changing of the fan set-up, etc. could have sent the BIOS up the swanny, or is it more likely that the M/B is damaged?

Would re-flashing the BIOS maybe get it to start recognising the 2 duff slots again, or am I just wasting my time?

Thanks for your help.
