Excuse my noobish questions

What is the difference between registered RAM & non.
I kinda know the difference between ECC & non but could some one
give me a brief example of what would one need this kind of ram for.

Also the formula's on mixing RAM lol.
Like can a cas2.5 reg ecc be paired with case2 non ecc non reg ---etc...

Or if you have a good url for me on the subject
