RAM Question

I'm looking at the ASUS P4PE/L Motherboard and Corsair 512MB DDR Memory 3200. The motherboard says it supports DDR333 memory, but the Corsair stick I'm looking at is DDR400. Would it work in the motherboard?

Sure. The speed quoted is a maximum speed, it will run at whatever speed the system tells it to. In this case, it will be told to run at DDR333 and will with no problems 🙂

Then in this case, if it will max out at DDR333, should I even bother spending more money on a DDR400 stick, or just buy a DDR333 stick?

Depends on your future upgrade plans. If the memory isn't more than a few dollars more expensive in DDR400, then go for it. If not, I would say go DDR333.

If you buy the DDR400, then it will typically run at more aggresive timings than you're typical stick of DDR333 because it isn't running at its maximum patiential, whereas the DDR333 is maxed out. I could be wrong, but that's my theory

You're not wrong but you are completely correct. For that reason I would take DDR400 unless you are building some sort of "cheaper" or not for maximium performance.
