This only happens when i'm playing Counter Strike Source.

Application Error
The instruction at "0x2418fcf5" referenced memory at "0x00e79530". The memory could not be "read".

It just happens during the middle of the game at random times, and it doesn't happen that often. I'm running 1 sitck of 512 XMS Corsair and 1 stick of Corsair ValueRam. They are not over clocked. I think that maybe the two don't like to be mixed.??? IDK.

And I also get another error while playing CSS. But the game doesn't freeze or anything. I looks as if I'm in the process of lagging out, but i open up console in CSS and it says "Recieved Fragment out of order 761/1" and it lists that like 40 times. But i can just disconnect and rejoin and it does fine for awhile.

Any help?

Well, TCP protocol calls for all the packets to be in order and numbered. If packets are received out of order, TCP calls for the program to wait, and re-request the packets in the proper order (hang). So it sounds like a network issue to me. Might be router-based, might be your network card, might be windows, might be CSS.

Well i ran that memtest from like 11 last night......to now at 30 and it came up with no errors at all. So maybe it's just a defect in Steam or CSS or Windows.

Sucks though

Well it's not a common bug in CS:S because I haven't heard of it and it's never happened to me.

Have you tweaked the CS:S config file? If so I would recommend you delete or rename it and see if that clears the problem. A lot of so-called performance tweaks only make things worse.

A re-install of Steam usually fixes most problems. I would recommend you RENAME the old Steam folder and NOT delete or uninstall it. Then re-install Steam. You can then copy your cfgs and maps over from the old install as needed AFTER you've confirmed the new install is working properly.

Hope this helps...

hmm thats intresting never really thought of that before. but No i haven't tweaked source. I have reinstalled Steam and that didn't seem to help to much. I might try that new folder deal and see if that helps. After that........i think i'm going to buy a new mobo. I've been wanting to get rid of this one.

I have come to a conclusion, i do not particularly like the ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo......anyone else like or have this mobo? I was wondering if the game might just clash with the mobo for some reason.

thx for the help

I would suspect your problems are with your RAM. You should be using MATCHED memory sticks on that mobo. Dual channel memory mode is VERY fussy about using matched sticks (this applies to ANY mobo running in dual channel mode).

I would suspect that if you used only one of your memory sticks, you probably wouldn't get that error.

ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe is what I use in my main workstation, and I play a lot of FPS games including CS:S with no problems. I love the mobo - one of the better ones NForce2 boards I've owned. It replaced an Epox 8RDA+ that got moved to my LAN party rig.

The A7N8X-E is VERY fussy about memory (as are most modern dual-channel mobos to be fair). You can't just buy ANY memory for it. You need to find memory that's been certified or tested.

I bought Corsair XMS TwinX matched sticks (which ARE listed as certified for this mobo) and it BSOD all the time until I discovered a FAQ on Corsair's forums that lists specific memory timing settings they've tested with XMS memory and specific mobos. The A7N8X-E was listed and I used their recommended settings and it runs like a champ ever since.

There's a lot of info on their memory support forums: http://www.houseofhelp.com/v2/forumdisp...42fe23851bc147212bda367235e43fbb&f=145

Look for the post titled "XMS Qualification and Testing" - 3rd or 4th one down from the top. That's where I got the timing settings for XMS memory with this mobo.

I use the following settings:

Testing parameters for TWINX3200C2:

TWINX1024-3200C2 Data Sheet
TWINX512-3200C2 Data Sheet
Motherboard make and model: Asus A7N8X and/or Asus P4C800/-E and/or Abit IC7.
Each pair is tested and packaged together using the following settings:
DRAM Clock: 200 MHz
SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T (2.5 on AMD platform)
SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T
SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T
SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T
SDRAM Bank Interleave: 4 Bank
All other settings are motherboard defaults.

I got BSOD's in CS:S when I was overclocking my AMD64.. Even when prime95 would pass, CS:S somehow would crash once and a while..

I do not think that your problem is with your RAM, but with Windows. I happen to get that error or something like it when I mess around with a lot of files, raring and parring stuff. You can try and use only 1 stick to see if you still get it, but I happen to believe that hardware incompatibility is a thing of the past, when I used to install Win95 every other weekend. But I think that your problems will go away with a simple format, and reinstall of Windows. If you get a new mobo, you are better off with a fresh install anyway, why not give it a try.
