Ram question with ABIT Fatal1ty AN8-SLI Socket 939

I recently bought a new system with this motherboard and 1.5gigs (3x512MB) of PC4000 ram, I was not aware that this board required dual channel ram to be installed in pairs and had some system instability, I took one of the sticks of ram out and everything seems to be working fine... but my question is, if I buy another 512MB stick of PC4000 ram and stick the second pair back in for a total of 2gigs, will I still get dual channel performance? I've heard some boards switch the memory clock to DDR333 when all 4 slots are populated.

Firstly all S939 CPUs can run in both dual channel and single channel without problems.

If you have a later generation Athlon 64 (Venice or San Diego Core) or an Athlon 64 X2 (Manchester or Toledo Core) then you will be able to run 4 DIMMS at DDR400.

Earlier Athlon 64s could only officially run DDR333 when using 4DIMMS.

It is best to use matched pairs of RAM this makes it easier to get the correct timings but also ensures that all the DIMMS have the same number of sides.
