RAM question (pc3200 vs pc2700)

Ok. I've posted in various other forums about the computer I'm building.
It has an asus a7n8x deluxe mobo with a athlon xp 2500+ barton proc (333 mhz fsb)

I'm deciding which ram to get and someone is saying that pc3200 won't work as well as pc2700 since the athlon chip is 333 fsb and the pc3200 ram is 400mhz fsb. Many ppl have recommended pc3200 ram with this pc build, but my friend is insisting that it won't work right. Any help plz?
thanks.

PC3200 RAM will work fine, but will run only at 333MHz DDR unless you are overclocking. Since PC2700 is cheaper (at least it was the last time I checked), you'd be better off just using PC2700 and saving a little money if you don't plan to overclock. IMHO, there's no reason to get it just for "forward compatibility," because (if you're like most average people) by the time you upgrade your computer again, you'll need newer and better RAM anyway.

you can definately run the mem faster than the fsb so don't worry bout that
but basically if you got the money the faster the mem the better
I would suggest getting either pc3200 or pc3500
pc2700 might hurt you down the road if you upgrade your motherboard/cpu
just make sure you get something that is of good quality with low latencies if you can
but yeah you can run the fsb at 333 and the mem at 400 or higher with the nforce2 chipset
besides you might wanna overclock

get pc2700 if price is your main concern here, otherwise get faster

good luck

PC3200 is only a tad bit more, isn't it? If you're getting ram, why not spend just a tad more to get the good stuff, then run the whole PC on the 200 bus. Your CXU, mobo, and (if you get 3200) ram will all run well at the speed.
