Can the PC2100 ram run on a 200mhz bus? I was thinking about doing a simple upgrade on a older computer. I would like to put a 1.2Ghz Duron onto my MSI KT266a. Then Im going to take the two crucial pc2100 dimms out and use it on the computer with the Duron, and buy a 512MB Mushkin DDR high performance stick. Just didnt know if the PC2100 would run on a 200mhz bus setup. Thanks

yes you can .. i had 2 crucial 256mb PC2100 DDR on my Abit KG7 and Duron 700 FSB 200. Runs like a charm!

If at all possible, and if I owned a Duron, I wuld definitely tweak the Duron so it runs on a 133FSB. I don't know about your MSI board having multipliers, but it is preferable to set the multiplier to 9.0 and then change the bus to 133mhz FSB. Durons run extremely well if they are put on a 133 mhz bus, especially those cool new Morgans :)

As for that Abit KG7, it is more than likely to have multiplier adjustments, so I'd unlock the chip, lower the multiplier to 5.5, and set the bus to 133. :)

Yes the chips are backwards compatbale with the slower 200mhz speed. Most systems would couple it with pc1600 or 200mhz ddr-ram but this is just fine and gives you room to run the fsb up and handle the fsb...make sure you change the bios to reflect 133mhz memory or it won't change the pci divider to 1/4 from 1/3...Many have ran pc133 sdram with durons as well instead of pc100...they just needed to set bios for ram to host_clk+pci (100+33 (1/3 divider for most older boards for pci mhz)

sidenote it is possible to run pc2100 at a 200fsb or effective 400mhz bus...with a 1/6 divider which I think has been listed in some newer boards or some of the 333 boards coming out.
