My current rig is:

Intel E2180 @ 3ghz w/ Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
2x1gb of G.Skill pc6400
MSI 8800GT OC
Antec NSK4480 w/380watt earthwatts psu
80gb ide hdd
lite-on lightscribe dvd-rw burner
windows xp home sp2

I do plan on getting the western digital 640gb drive now, but I have heard a lot of bad things about neweggs shitty packaging for oem harddrives(just in brown PAPER bag!)
I plan on keeping the mobo and upgrading the processor to a E8500 or Q6600 whenever Nehelm is released and also switch to Vista 64bit.

Should I buy another 2x1gb kit for 4x1gb or sell my 2x1gb kit and come out with $30 and buy a 2x2gb kit for $90?

Anyone know where I can get a 640gb WD besides on newegg

Next time this goes in Memory and Storage, the exact two things you're asking about.

Unless you're playing SupCom, an HD upgrade is the smarter choice. More storage and higher transfer speeds. And definitely more quiet, if we're talking about WD. Before the KS series...WD's had a signature "whine". KS series and after, otoh, none of that nonsense.

You're thinking about a quad core, but also want to hang on to your aged 80GB WD?

The new 640GB WD is exactly what you need to top off a quad core rig (or a 3GHz dual core for that matter).

You've been misinformed. They pack their OEM drives very well.

newegg is great in shiping, speed, and returns.

They are bad in prices on hot items, and items whom people link to so 100+ people spam on that item to hike the price.

Perfect example was the 780i when it first came out. Lol... in 15min the price went up 25 dollars and flattened out at 75+ original start price until it was sold out.

But yes dont be afraid to buy at the egg if you find it for a good price. They have excellent packaging.

I've bought several OEM HDs from Newegg over the years. So here's a review for you...

Pros: Prices were good. The drives had at least 2" of the packing peanuts around every side, besides being covered in bubble wrap. Every drive arrived fast and in perfect working order.

Cons: They weren't free.

Other Thoughts: I would have strong suspicions about any "bad packing" reviews left for Newegg HDs.
