RAM PROBLEMS

I have an abit KT7A It runs perfectly with 2x128MB micron in slots 2 and 3 on the Motherboard but when I change it to fill 1,2 I get blue screens and crashes. Is my dimm slot 1 screwed up?

I think that I misunderstood your initial question. If you have RAM in the 2 slots closest to your cpu, you are OK? But if you put that same ram in the slots farthest away from the cpu it crashes and Blue screens on you? Or are you saying you filled ALL slots and it crashed? It is interesting that you said the slots "nearest the cpu is the one that works", because they are slots 2 and 3. According to your manual, the slots are numbered 1-2-3 starting with the one farthest from your cpu. I am at a loss here, except that you may be right and slot one is bad. Did you change or get new RAM when you did this?

Yeah I'll clarify its like this []cpu slots 3 2 1

Now I've read from various threads that the RAM should be put in slots 1,2 (furthest away) so I checked my configuration and found out that when I did install the RAM in my MB a few weeks ago I put them in slots 2,3 (closest). So I decided It shouldn't do any harm to move it to slots 1,2 but when I switched the ram from slot 3 to 1 it crashes.

OK, did you just move the stick from #3 to #1? Try moving #2 to #1 slot and #3 to #2 slot. In other words, try reversing the sticks. If that doesn't work, put them back the way you started and just remember that old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Seriously, if reversing them doesnt' work, you may indeed have a bad slot. But that is fairly rare. I would also be out of options. Is all the RAM in spec for your system? Are all the settings in your BIOS for the RAM correct? What does your configuration show during boot for the RAM? Usually there is a box that will have a listing of RAM in "Slots 1,2". Maybe others will have different ideas.
