RAM Problems?

I have 2 x 1 GB Patriot Memory DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 Latency running dual channel.

When I play my games it seems to load really slowly the first time, it loads slower then my old computer with DDR 233. However, the second time that I load the game or the map it does it really quickly. Is there some reason that this might be happening? I've run MemTest and it didn't report any errors after running it for about a day.

defrag hard drive... try perfectdisk trial version

a lot of people (myself included) greatly prefer it over windows defrag util

things towards the beginning (outside) of the disk load faster than things towards the end of the disk (inside)

If your HDD is getting full, more crap will be towards the inside

Wired pegged it. It sounds like a HDD issue. If after defraging, you are still not happy, buy a new HDD. I would reccomend the Raptor 150. It's extremely fast. 🙂

On First run everything is being read off the HDD not memory (as their wouldn't be anything cached yet). On Second run most files are now in cache on the memory so their is very little HDD reading needed; which is why it is loading faster. I would to agree with the above it sounds like a HDD issue.

I did a defrag using Perfect Disk 2008 and its loading a lot faster, but theres still Meta Data. It told me to reboot and I did but it gives some error saying i need to run CHKDSK. Does anyone know what the command is to run it?

at a prompt
CHKDSK c: /f /x
The F fixes any errors
The X unhandles all, Incase you have a network going or other shared files, Its advised to reset after this.
CHKDSK /? will show the help if you need it.
