I have 2 Geil Value Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 for my Asus p4c800-e deluxe. When i turn my comp on, it shows that already 300mb of ram has been used up...i only have 3 files that loads up...how is this possible?

I'm guessing you mean windows? Which flavor of windows? And what do you mean when you say you "only have 3 files that loads up"? Do you mean 3 applications, and if so which apps?
Do you have a total of 512, or a total of 1gb?

Isn't that about normal? I have a gig as well and it's always hovering around 810000 unused when just in the shell. Unless you disabled virtual memory or something it should be fine.

well, i did control alt delte to see how many programs are using most of hte mem, and i find out htat its most of the system apps that is using it. I was wondering if it was possible to somehow make it so only the important apps are used and not the ones that arent needed.

i have Windows XP, and i have 2 stick sof 512mb, which is 1 gb of ram in the comp.

the 3 apps are AIM, Ad blocker, and norton anti virus...those are the ones that are in Start UP, the rest are just automatic, and im not sure which ones i shoudl get rid of or whatnot

An ad blocker? Ew. Where'd you get it? Could be spyware and spyware tends to eat the hell out of system resources. I don't have much experience with Norton Anti but it may take up a lot of resources to run checks and balances.

try disabling aim, adblocker, and NAV. I personally have not had any problems with NAV (2003) eating up resources, but it seems a good number of people do.

Download spybot, adaware, windows updates, driver updates, mainboard bios updates, and the latest virus definitions.

I'd think that would solve your problem.

well i did all that, its just it eats up ram way to fast...somethiing in my comp is doing it, and its starting to suck...i mean at first, i had a gateway i got in 98, and it only had 128mb, i put so much stuff in that comp, and it never had ram problems.

Spybot definitely has a tool that can delete programs from starting up @ windows.

Also is a good idea for anyone who goes online to update and run both adaware and spybot at least once a month. They're free downloads.

Further, while some people will say I'm wrong on this, I think all flavors of windows slow down over the course of time. It's like bad housekeeping; a crumpled wrapper or misplaced t-shirt adds up over time, and in 6 months you have a big ol' mess. Reinstalling Windows every 6-12 months is a good idea.
