RAM problems - appreciate any help

Hi everyone, I bought the same type of RAM that came with my laptop. After I installed it in the open slot on the bottom of the laptop, I booted up the computer and immediately got a blue screen. I then tried to start again and it would go to the Windows logon screen but would shut down. I then tried to go to BIOS to make sure the RAM was recognized and it was. So I tried again to start and instead got an option to repair Windows, etc. I just took the RAM out and the system seems to work fine.

Was the RAM bad? Or maybe I did not install it correctly? Not sure.

I'm thinking of maybe ordering another one and seeing what happens. I hope that one works.

I have bought RAM for my laptop and it would boot to a black screen, sent it back got new RAM and it worked.

What model laptop?

Is this a stick of RAM that matches the other? i.e 1GB paired with 1GB? Some laptops don't work with mixed RAM capacities.

Defective RAM is being shipped to customers all the time. Before purchasing RAM, you should match their timings and frequency. If any of these are mismatched, it could give rise to the possibility of incompatibility.
