Help!

My RAM: 2x1GB low latency

Just did my first build and system works fine with one RAM stick in slot 2 (the first orange one) but when I put the second in slot 4 (matching orange for dual) it will start up but crash when barely above idle with a BSOD - "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". happens the same when I swap them: works with the other one but not the second.
I have everything at stock speeds, and the RAM is automatically loading at its recommended 2-3-2-5. FSB is 200.9

What testing should I do? Did I get a bad stick or are they in general a bad choice?


 
i don't think they're a bad choice, have you memtested them at all? also whats your dram volt at? try 2.7 or 2.8. it should be safe up to 2.9v

i think mucker who lurks around here has run this stuff so he can probably give you some timings but it should be fine at 2-3-2-5 with all else on auto.

also what bios do you have, 3.10?
 
I had similar things... its fricken a bitch.. I have 4x512 samsung pc3200.. if I drop the speed out of auto to like 3-3-3-.. it runs.. auto detect does not..
but its not a dfi..
 
Had no floppy and am salvaging one tonight so should be able to memtest.
will look at the voltage thanks, wasn't sure what it should be!

haven't flashed the bios yet, as im working away on it with 1 stick and was afraid of disasters. the bios I have is jan 2005 and it supports the san diego so I was thinking it was recent enough. Do you recommend I flash it?
 
Yes, flash to the latest. It offers a lot more ram stability than previous BIOSs.

Also, it contains Memtest in the BIOS, so no need for a floppy.
 
doesn't the 1.25 bios have memtest? i forget...

anyway, you could also burn an image to cd and boot to that for memtest.

edit- and squirrell is right, 3.10 is better for stability.
 
My friend has exactly the same problem with the dfibboard but corsair pc 4400 ram. He flashed to the 3/10 bios ut that didn't help. worked out that the board doesn't like to run in dual channel as both sticks of ram are fine in single channel mode. perhaps there is a eta bios that will fix the problem.
 
Hi thanks for all the advice,

found a floppy and ran memtest86+ for 11 hours last night and at stock speeds RAM 200Mhz:

on 15 passes it found 19 errors all during test 8. not sure what this means? faulty goods?


as for the voltage I tried changing it in the bios but when I change it up to 2.8 etc it straight away bounces back down to 2.6

please flash to the new bios. it not only fixes this issue, but offers MUCH more stability with many different sticks of ram than all the previous BIOSs. those errors might flat out disappear. of course, they may not. either way, you won't know unless you flash and see.
 
friend of mine had the sli version of the boad and had the same issues with even the newest bios, so he returned it and got an msi sli board and is very happy now.

the memtest seamed to act as a burn in and windows loaded fine with the 2 sticks after!
flashed bios after and it all is working ok
my computer/properties is showing 2GB but CPU-Z is showing 16384 MB 😕

nearly there!
