RAM Price Hike Expected

Might be time to load up now for Vista... assuming you're actually going to run the POS.

I'll run it...in about a year. I'll let everyone else be the guinnie pig. They'll deal with the lower gaming performance, bad drivers, bugs, and incompatable software.

I did the same thing with XP, I waited a while before using it.

As for the memory issue I've seen memory prices going up day by day. I'd buy while there's some rebates.

I would not worry about it. Unless the factory burns to the ground (again) the days of $300 per 8meg stick is gone forever.

🙂

haha a bit exaggerated, but it is very likely that every game released for the next 2-3 years will work on XP 100%. Add to that, most games won't be 64bit and won't use DX10 (some may have DX10 features with a fully functional DX9 mode).

I'm not ever going to do Vista, so I'm not real worried. It's going to be the first pay by the month OS ever, so I hear.

Riiight. You're exactly correct. Now go back to your room, okay?

Remind me, which one of us has a friend that works for Microsoft?

ROFL.

Pay per month?

El oh el.

Your "friend" must be smoking some good stuff

If they do that no one will buy, nor even bother downloading it.

I myself wouldn't anyway. Pay per month to use your personal computer ? I'd rather not touch a PC ever again.

Well, we'll see. I hope he's wrong, or even lying. Here's most of the reasons I'll never be using Vista: links, whether it ends up being pay by the month or not. My friend says that Bill himself is wanting it to be pay by the month.

Would never fly in consumerland even if it was true. Vista's adoption will be slow enough as it is for a number of stupid reasons.

Back on topic - what happened to the RAM market? AMD said they were going DDR2 for reduced costs yet DDR2 is still more expensive than DDR. Now they're talking about a price INCREASE? Yippee!

You guys must not realize that 99.x% of the OS's that Microsoft sells is to Dell, HP, Gateway, and the like. Just because we don't adopt it doesn't mean that the rest of the world, won't still be buying their pre-built PC's at the same rate they are today. Besides, it's not as if they would be charging by the month from the first month. They've already built the ability into the OS to be able to shut down any individual PC they want to shut down.

Do yourselves a favor. Go here: AMD's forums, and ask any question at all concerning Vista/AMD or Intel and either DRM or paying by the month. Watch how long it takes for the thread to disappear. Assuming the mod isn't asleep, it will be gone in less than an hour, most likely alot less.

edit: And you should really read 5 or 6, at least, of those links, before making any decision.

RAM prices have already started going up. A Patriot DDR 2GB kit I ordered 3 weeks ago for $177 from monarch went up $50!

I'm not worried - already got 2GB of PC3200 OCZ CAS 2.0 stuff running fine.
Plus now that Conroe doesnt seem to suffer much performance impact from DDR memory I can afford to wait out this round of DDR2 for a little bit longer.

Microsoft does that and that's the end of them and the beginning of another OS domination. Mac X? Linux? Doesn't really matter to me. They can try to charge but that will just force us all to go somewhere else. And if those other well known one's decide to go the same route? Someone will become another bill gates by developing thier own OS. I'm not in the least worried 🙂

Didn't you expect people to have a lower opinion of you after you posted that?
