RAM Posting Flex Memory Mode Should be Dual Channel

Wondering what possible troubleshooting options I might have. My 8gigs of ram (4) 2gb sticks is sometimes posting at the correct 8gb dual channel and sometimes posting at 6gb flex memory mode & one of the modules isn't recognized.

I understand the difference between the two modes but when I run in flex. My machine is less stable and freezes.

possible explanations or solutions?
