Ram or motherboard issue?

I have 2x256 Crucial pc3200 DDR CL2 and 2x512 Mushkin Blue pc3200 DDR CL2 sticks running on an Abit IS7 (i865) mobo. The system started crashing randomly, blue screens, etc, so i figured it was my ram. here's what i did:

1. Tested each stick individually in each of the 4 ram slots using MemTest 3.2 (16 tests in all)

2. Each of the sticks, running solo, passes in each of the 4 ram slots.

3. I then tried the 2x256 Crucial sticks in dual-channel mode using both pairs of ram slots... once again it passes

4. I then tried the 2x512 Mushkin sticks in dual-channel mode, and they fail almost immediately using memtest

5. I then tried each mushkin stick solo in each of the 4 slots again, and yet again they pass all the tests

6. Tested the 2x512 Mushkin sticks in dual-channel mode for the 2nd time, and yet again they fail almost immediately

7. Tested the 2x256 Crucial sticks in dual-channel mode in both pairs of slots, and they pass just fine

I'm at a loss here!! is it the ram, or the motherboard?? I at first thought the mushkin must be bad, yet it only fails when its in dual-channel mode. But the motherboard seems ok since the 2 crucial sticks work fine in dual channel mode.... Any help is appreciated!!

Have you checked the voltage settings on the individual Ram sockets?

The Mushkin need to be set between 2.6-2.8v.
The Crucial should be @2.8v.

hi, first question is where is the MB location it fails when you run the muskin in dual channel mode? when you reverse the order keeping dual channel is this fail in the same spot? or did it move, you can tell then which stick could be bad, and also if you use memtest86+ the version is 1.65 and this is the newest of the memtests, the original memtest was updated as the "plus" so i recommend this newer verison when your testing the ram in dual channel and single channel on te muskin. let us know how it goes, good luck.
