Sup yall,

I don't know what sub-forum to post this in so I thought I might as well use this post. Interesting that there is no RAM sub-forum.

I'm pretty sure I'll either be going w/ a A64 4000+ or an FX-55. I would like to know which RAM is better: 2X1024MB OCZ Dual Channel PC3200 EL Platinum Rev. 2 DDR RAM or 2X1024MB Corsair XMS PC3200 DDR RAM. The OCZ ram runs at 2-3-2-5 stock timings while the Corsair is 2-3-3-6. Corsair seems to be a lil slower. Is the OCZ set definitely better? I'm thinking of doing a 200-300MHz overclock w/ good air cooling and would like to know what's best. If I'm doin that kind of overclock, would it be better to go w/ higher frequency RAM or is PC3200 adequate? Also, I heard DIMM slots 2 and 4 are best in this setup, is that true as well? I appreciate any feedback. Peace...

Edit: Please see Post #4.

Honestally the A64 controller cant succesfully handle more than 3 dimms at a time. If you want high capacity go with 3 x 512 sticks of TCCD, but no more. As for the dimm position you want the 3 closest to the CPU.

I did some homework on the DFI nForce 4 Ultra D. It turns out it prefers only 2 sticks of memory and for them to be in slots 2 and 4. However, I still need the question of which RAM to purchase answered.

theman-You say that specific ram is good, but is it actually worth it over 2X 1 GB DDR PC-3500 (433) OCZ (OCZ4332048PFDC-K) or 2X 1 GB DDR PC-3200 (400) OCZ Dual Channel Platinum EL? I can get the PC-3200 for $300 and the PC-3500 for $359. I can't even find the ram you're talkin about in 2X 1GB pairs. So what's better, the 2X 512 MB of the ram you're talkin about for about $200 or one of the two setups I'm talkin about above that are both 2 GBs but for a higher price? Does the fact that the 2X 512MB setup is faster in frequency make up for the fact that it's a total of 1GB less? Furthermore, I read (I think in one of Anandtech's articles or maybe the forum) that you need 2GB to efficiently take advantage of the 64-bit instructions in the A64. BTW, I will definitely be using this with a FX-55. I'm aimin for a 200 MHz (maybe 300) overclock as many have said it tops out at 3 GHz.

If anyone can answer these questions please post a reply, I would appreciate it. Peace...

OCZ is better speed-wise stock, and for overclocking. They are stable at high and low speeds. OCZ and Corsair both make good ram,I have both, and OCZ makes better ram for overclocking.

Does the PC-3200 Platinum EL setup from OCZ allow for a good overclock on the FX-55 (i.e. up to 2.8 or 2.9 GHz)?

I assume that it is possible then. The reason I ask is because FX-55 (at least that I've seen on the net) top out at around 3 GHz. Oh...and while we're at this, can you tell me if yours is the Hammer or the San Diego core? The San Diegos are built on a smaller process and are said to run cooler so I wanna know if that overclock is b/c of that or what. Thanks...
