For real? I could get the same performance with 3-5-5-8 memory @ same speeds with 2-3-3-5 memory? I wanted to oc my system, but my memory doesn't go above 204mhz ...

maybe i'll bump it down ....

I was looking at 2.5, but if it doesn't matter for AMD, then you are saying CAS 3 is fine. Is it fine for OCing?

I wouldn't say it doesn't matter for AMD, but it's not as big of a factor. The performance gain you get from low latency memory will be there, but it may not be a significant improvement. TechReport has a good article on this

But I personally would save my pennies with respect to latencies and put that money to better use on other components.

Ok. It's just known that EverQuest II can run better with over 1 GB memory. I got the connect3d from monarch so that should help too.
Running on a 4 pipe 9600xt right now...

I was looking at 2x1GB. I could sell off my pc3200 512x2 Corsair value select 2.5's, unmatched I suppose.
1 GB sticks just run so much more.
That Corsair 1 GB you link has positive reviews I see.
I don't have a 939 board yet. I am looking around. I currently have a bid on ebay with 2 days left so I don't want to buy a board just yet.
It is the eVGA Socket 939 nForce 4 SLI Motherboard 133-K8-NF41-AX.

If you want 2x1GB, then just buy two of the Gigaram sticks I linked. Seriously the extra $15 per stick over the corsair value is WELL worth it. What's the point of upgrading if you're going half-assed. I mean, if you're gonna try and be so cheap, why not get Socket 754? Why an SLI board?

*sigh*

I was under the impression that Gigaram was a generic brand people would NOT recommend over Corsair.
Corsair is what I have now so I am looking at that brand as well. Since I have 512x2 in dual channel, I was thinking of 1GBx2 for dual channel as well.
My bid was placed days ago. If I win at what I bid at then I got a deal.
I have never heard of G.Skill. Sounds like another lesser generic brand.

G.Skill is top notch.

Gigaram has been around since the FPM days. I have 8MB of gigaram in a 386SX that still works.

What?! I thought Zebos benchmarks laid the matter to rest.

For AMD64 latency is more important than bandwidth. Thats why performance differences between the 754-939 isn't huge because AMD isn't bandwidth starved.
Unless the memory modules are rated very high say PC4700, it can't overcome the performance hit from high latencies.

Normally, i would absolutely never argue with you Ribbon, since you really know your stuff.

But i've been noticing you recommending Gigaram a bit too much lately.

Initially when Gigaram first appeared on Newegg with its nice low timings & great prices, it got snatched up very quickly.

But then i started seeing a number of threads on various forums, & in them, the majority of people who'd gotten the RAM could barely get the RAM working at stock settings, & many had to underclock or loosen timings to get it to run stably.

It seemed Gigaram fixed some of the listed timings for the RAM, but it seems on others there are still issues.

Just look at the recent reviews on Newegg, for example.

I have a hard time understanding how you can recommend this company, since there have been a ridiculous number of screwed over customers.

I remembered X2 benchmarks on AT showed better performance with high bandwidth memory but still not a great improvement.
Do you have any links to show 1Gb modules behave differently from 512 sticks?
