I'm asking to see if anyone here has a fix to this. I just setup my new a64 mobo and cpu yesterday. After I was done, the mobo won't boot up and just beeped. After checking everything was in order, I thought it might be a ram issue. I luckily had a spare stick of 256mb ram I wasn't using. So once I removed my 2x 512mb sticks and put the 256mb in, it worked great (one stick of 512mb didn't work either). So the first thing I did was updated to the latest bios. Afterwards, my one stick of 512mb works now, except putting 2 sticks in would still get me the beeping issue. Now does anyone have a fix to this? thanks.
 
Better run memtest. One stick could be bad. Also, try posting with the one 512 that works in each memory slot, one at a time, in case one dram slot is bad.

nope, both sticks works fine individually, but not together. and i've tried all the slots too, they all seem to work.
 
Check the bios settings. Run the memory in manual at 2t command rate with the memory speed at 166. These are the preferred settings for extreme overclocking, if you plan on trying it. If my ecs board can overclock at 25%, imagine what your abit potential is.
 
alright, just as an update...now i'm really puzzled. i went ahead and ordered new ram, thinking i would sell my old ones to my friend so i won't be at much of a loss. turns out the new ram will not run either...i've derived from my experience that my mobo CANNOT run 1GB...(i've tried 2x512mb with 2 different sets, 2x256mb + 1x512mb). it also seems to not want to do dual channel either, because my 2x256mb will not boot when in dual channel, but boots fine when not (when it works perfectly fine in my p4 setup in dual channel). i'm just wondering WTF is wrong...i mean shouldn't it just work or not work, what in the world is this half and half business?
