Currently i am using 2gb x 2 of ram in dual channel and want to increase the ram. Thus have 2 scenarios:
1. Buy 2 brand new ram 4gb x2
2. Buy 1 new 8gb plus 1 old 2gb ram, total 10gb

The reason of scenario no2 becoz my mb only have 2 ram slot, so if dual channel not really improves lot of speed, then i can save some money amd more ram(10 gb > 4gb x 2), also not waste the old ram.

So what will yr do? Please give me advice, thanks

Don't put an 8GB DIMM in one slot and a 2GB DIMM in the other. That's a huge mismatch.
Is that incompatible or cant boot it up?
Do they have the same speed rating?
Do they have the same CAS rating?
Do they have the same voltage rating?

Are they double or single sided?
Double or single sided... will they function in the DIMM slots according to your MB manual?

It might work, it might not. Even if it does work, it's not ideal. DDR3 is so cheap now the only legitimate advice is to buy a proper XGB x 2 kit for the amount of memory you want.

I think you are just looking for someone to say that a 8GB and 2GB module will work fine together. No one can know the answer for sure except by testing it with the exact same CPU, Motherboard, and Memory modules.

what is your motherboard and/or system? even if you get 8g dimms if your board does not recognize them you're just wasting your money. does your system use ddr3 or is it ddr2?

without more info it's hard to help you.

This ^.

You need to make sure your system supports 8GB modules. The 1156 MB's (i3-530) in my signature only support 4GB modules.
