RAM Mixing -- Latency/Timing Help

Hello,

1] I am currently using DDR2 Gskill 2x2Gb sticks for the total of 4GB. My current Gskill Ram is 5-5-5-15 @ 1.8V.

Now, I am only getting Transcend Ram locally (2Gb Sticks) where I am and would like to go with it, but the problem is timing and latency is not mentioned either on the Ram OR the website. (On some webpages its mentioned CAS Latency 4-5-6)

Please check and tell me the specs, Product Link:

2] If I just buy single transcend 2Gb ram stick and run for the total of 6GB on my PC, is it okay? will I loose the befit of dual channel tht I am currently getting with my Gskill ram OR Gskill will run in dual channel and transcend single channel ?

I was going to summarize an answer until I saw the above. 2) can be answered in the manual for your motherboard.

I am not tht technically inclined to understand from manual, I hope sumone could explain in easy language.

PS: My understanding in RAM is worst as compared to all other PC components.

here is the easy language.

when mixing ram. all ram will be reduce to the timings specs of the slowest ram installed. with that particular transcend CL6 memory stick. both the gskill will be reduce to CL6.

with that asus mb. by populating 3 dim slot on a dual channel motherboard. it will revert back to single channel.

in summary.
currently = 2x2gb (4gb) w/ CL5 in dual channel
to be = 3x2gb (6gb) w/ CL6 in single channel

got it?

Yup ok, but I guess I will buy x2 sticks so tht I run in dual channel only. Now my only concern is all new & old sticks will run together without any problems.

And, what is programmable CAS latency 4-5-6 means?

So I had a look and section 2.4.2 says "Always install DIMMS ..... latency"
The answer is right there like the previous poster said. What do you not understand?

craige4u... honestly. If you are not willing to read/understand the manual, then it's probably be best at this point to get a help of a PC guru friend living nearby you. Not only can they test the RAM and play with settings/placement to get you the best performance, you can also learn in the process.

Just don't forget to go out and treat the friend to some drinks. Have fun.
