RAM Mhz Question

I have Dual channel DDR 3200 ram, 2 gigs of it. (512x2) (512x2)

They both are supposed to be clocked at 2.5-3-3-7 per factory settings.
My problem is.. the ram isn't running at 200mhz frequency.

with CPU-Z this is what it tells me:

Freq: 160.7 mhz
FSBRAM: CPU/15
CAS# Latency 2.5
Ras to Cas Delay: 3
Ras Precharge: 3
Cycle Time: 6
Bank Cycle Time: 10 clocks
DRAM Idle Timer: 16 clocks.


is everything running fine? I don't understand why the frequency has been lowered, and is the timings correct? Thanks.. hope somebody can help me.

Are you running on a divider?

You're running the RAM w/ the 166 divider.

Look for the setting in your bios for RAM ratios/dividers.

Set it to 200 MHz (will usually be labelled either 200, 400, or 1:1).

That being said, since you are running 4 dimms, it's possible that might not work, since older A64s didn't like working at full DDR400 speeds.

It should work okay though; just set the divider instead of using auto.

If I remember correctly, running 4 DIMMs on S939 Athlon 64s would lower the memory speed to 166MHz. I think this had something to do with the Athlon's onboard memory controller.

is it throttling down w/ cool 'n quiet? i thought the newer/faster a64 could do the 4 sticks @ 200MHz, just @ 2t

Well, I just accessed my BIOS.. there was three options:

AUTO (which it was on)
MANUAL
SPD

I picked SPD, and it showed all my clocks, the default was DDR400.. so i restarted my computer and !! it worked! My cpuz reads like this:

Freq: 200.9MHz
FSBRAM: CPU/12
CAS# Latency 2.5
Ras to Cas Delay: 3
Ras Precharge: 3
Cycle Time: 7
Bank Cycle Time: 12 clocks
DRAM Idle Timer: 16 clocks.

The only things that changed was the frequency (of course), FSBRAM changed from CPU/15 to CPU/12 .. I dunno, does that matter? and.. Bank Cycle Time changed from 10 to 12 clocks..

does those things matter?

edit: replying to bob4432, ... yep, the command rate is at 2T

Cool n Quiet never affects the memory or FSB/HTT.

It merely lowers the multiplier.

You're good.

Since you've likely got all the subtimings set to use auto, that's likely why that one sub-timing was increased.

It's not really worth messing with though, unless you love tweaking RAM alot
