I have 384 PC133 MB ram in my pc running windows 98... Windows stinks at managing and allocating the ram. I know I would be better off upgrading to windows 2000, but I just don't have the time and anguish of getting new drivers. Is there any freeware ram software that actually works well enough to use? Thanks for any advice.

You can always add the following line to your system.ini under the following category:

[386Enh]
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1

Just helps in the usage of RAM before the swap file is used, though this may not be what you are looking for, it still helps performance.

It may be some work right now....but you can do some of the work incrementally....such as reinstalling your programs. Heck, I still haven't reinstalled MS Office over my W98 install yet.

I've found the install CD for Win-2000Pro has a good number of the drivers I needed. If you keep your W98 install and setup your box as a dual boot, you can always use W98 to get you out of trouble should you discover you don't have a critcal driver needed under Win-2000. You may want check some of your hardware for W-2000 drivers ahead of time....that's what I did so I had a nice little cache to pick from...you know, just in case.

Next time I do a fresh install, I doubt I'll even start with W98....buh bye dual boot.
