Ram Issues with 8GB and Asus

My uncle and myself both got the same parts for our new computer. q9300/asus p5ne/8gb ddr2, etc. Both computers have the updated bios from the asus site, but after the update they won't accept 8gb ram. 6gb runs fine though. With the 4 piece of ram theres no monitor signal. His does it and mine does also. Any ideas?

Which board exactly are you using? How much memory does your manual say your board supports? I am using Asus P5E, and my manual states that the board officially support up to 8GB of memory. I haven't tried running with 8GB yet, but I am curious as to what other people will reply in this thread...

We are both using an Asus P5NE-SLI. It says it can support up to 8Gb. I've read online that the beta bios update v1001 fixes it. Have to find out.

My uncle and I built the same exact setups. It turns out I got a bad stick of ram, but his are all good. He can run 6gb but not 8gb. It locks up a lot with 8gb in it.

Its Centon pc6400 2x2gb. I dont see a part number on it though.

Could it just be a low voltage issue with the ram?

You likely have to bump up the vdimm and northbridge voltage to get all 4 sticks stable, or possibly even to have the system POST. I'd recommend raising both about 0.1-0.2v.
