RAM issue with Dell E521

Hi all,

I only have one system using DDR2 RAM, which is a Dell E521.
Spec:

AM2 socket
Nvidia chipset
X2 3800+
512Mb PC4200 Ram ( I think Hynix)

I just got another stick of Kingston 512mb PC4200 RAM. Added it in there, got the beeps. Not booting up. Took out the original ram, put the kingston in by itself, still the beeps. Was wondering if anyone know of any issue with kingston RAM and the dell E521. Otherwise, I have to find someone with a computer using DDR2 to test out the RAM.

Thanks for any info.

Yup, the RAM you bought is probably bad, unless you went nuts while you installed it and tore something apart. 🙂 But you most likely did not. It's a RAM problem. Just RMA, right? Or is that out of the question?

Whenever you buy RAM, you really should run Memtest86+ or something similar. Even if it "seems" to be working OK. There's LOTS of bad or marginal RAM out there. You don't want to get stuck with some. Testing is free and can be done overnight.

I forgot to respond back. Anyway I found out why it didn't work. Because it is an ECC RAM. I didn't know that until I look up on the net with the part number. Thank for all your help. Now I need to sell it and get a regular ram instead.
