I went from 768mb to 1280mb, and still saw a significant performance increase in some games/apps.

BF1942 uses a gig of RAM?!?! There's a new one.

If you have to ask, you definitely don't need a gig. Its not going to do anything for games/internet/porn. For most people its just an ego booster. If you did photoshop/video editng/CAD for a living, then yeah, you'd benefit.

Can you read?

I said BF1942 loads faster with 1GB as compared to 512MB. Never did I say that it needed 1GB.

512 MB is perfect for the majority of people

1 GB is for those who have to have every pinch of performance.......but 512 is all you need

I moved from 512mb of Geil Golden Dragon pc3200 to 1gig of Buffalo pc3200 and noticed a huge speed boost... Not from the extra 512mb so much as the fact that I can run it at 220mhz with tight timings on stock volatge(haven't tried higher 'cause by SB and NB are getting so damn hot).

Anyway, just to see if there was much of a difference I tried 1*512mb stick and timed how fast a single player level of Desert Combat would open (as well as the FPS) and compared it to 1gig. The FPS when I played the level was the same as always and the level loaded 3secs faster, so there wasn't a big difference for me.

I hav heard of a lot of compatibility issues between the nforce2 chipset and the Geil RAM (both the regular and goldne dragon) although I had no problem with my golden dragon except that it maxed out at 210mhz at 2.9V.

I''d say you would be much better off with a gig. You could make due with 512, but then you may be dissapointed.

again the simple answer is if you just got your pay check then go for the 1 gig and a FX5900 and if you're on SSI you better stick with that P2 300 with the 2mb on-board video

Why not play your favorite game and when you're done, if you are using xp/2000 hit ctrl-alt-del and see what the max usage was? The "Peak" number, or is that not what it means?
