Hey all,

I am looking into upgrading my system a bit, and am getting a mobo that supports up to PC3200 (one of the barebone Shuttle XPC systems). I am looking to spend under $150 on RAM, and wanted suggestions. Dual channel, up to 2 GB (though clearly not in the price range).

What should I do?

I looked around on newegg, and that was actually the exact ram I have been thinking about. I was just going on the fact that mushkin is a good name though, because I don't know much else.

Any other suggestions?

Okay, so I just got 3 suggestions for 2x512, all within $20 of each other. Why should I get one as opposed to the others?

Is the mushkin "value" too? And if it is, is it still better than the Kingmax?

Which is the best of these three?

right, so I don't know much about latency, but it seems that the Kingmax has the lowest? Am I reading that right off of new egg?

Thanks

I told you to forget about ANY "Value" memory! Do you have to be hit over the head or what? :p

Hey guys, one more question . . .

A buddy of mine recommended RAM with heat sinks on it . . . do I need this? Will the three we've been talking about run too hot for a sff? What do you all think?

Heatspreaders are unnecessary. I don't think they're particularly effective in most setups anyway. Just go with regular cheap/"value" RAM (they're basically the same thing; Blain is just being Blain).

I'd go w/ the Mushkin also, it has the best timings for the price, the Corsair is also an option as they prolly have the best service, I'd stay away from the Kingmax to be safe.

And why would that be? Would you also stay away from Tonicom memory?

I've used KingMax and Corsair Value select before... I'll never buy Corsair's cheap line again.
The chips on my Corsair Value select were... SpecTek

Alright . . . well apparently I don't need the heatspreaders . . . and the Mushkin is the only one that hasn't been given ripped on by one of you guys :) - not to mention it's a solid brand with the best timings, as Arcane Death points out - AND the price dropped a whopping 5 bucks . . . 132 to 127

I think I'm all over the Mushkin

Get the Mushkin.

You have not even gave any reasons not to go with the Mushkin though. Just because you had problems with Corsairs value line does not mean all value RAM is bad.

He was asking what he should do.
There's no need to regurgitate years of experience...
Just tell the man what he should do

1GB (512x2) KingMax PC3200 @ Newegg = $113.41 (AR) + $4.33 shipping = $117.74
