RAM help, please

I have 256 megabytes of DRR (PC?) 266 RAM and I want to get an additional 256 or 512MB.
Should I get PC2100 or 2700? What will be the difference? How does the 266 compare to these?

And what brand to get, and not to get?

I would probably go with a 512MB 3200 stick of ram since it should be about the same price. "266" ram IS pc 2700. I would probably just install a sinle stick of 512 3200....it would probably be faster than firsing it to run at 100fsb........or i might just be crazy 😛

Sorry, no
PC 2100 is 133/266
PC 2700 166/333
PC 3200 is 200/400

PC 2700 or 3200 is prolly just as cheap as PC 2100. If you get the faster ram, it will automaticaly run at the slower speed.

I prefer Corsair Value Select@ about $80 for a stick of 512MB

Emultra, I am guessing that you have an older system. If that's true, I suggest you make sure what kinds of RAM your motherboard supports. It would be useless to get better, expensive RAM if your motherboard can only support RAM sticks up to PC2100 only.

Four words :

Backwards compatible
Future upgradeability

I will have to buy native, since US shops don't seem to deliver overseas. A bit more expensive, but what do you do.

I will switch motherboard to support an AthlonXP 2000-2400+, to serve as placeholder until I can get a completely new system. And a 9600 Pro as well, that's why I need the new RAM.

Would that be PC3200 with that?

Thanks for the help, guys. 🙂

I just wanted to make sure I didn't choose a RAM that would bottleneck the system.
