My last thread got deleted somehow... I need to know

1: If it is necessary, and

2: If there is enough room if I use 2 sets of 2x1024 modules in an ASUS A8N-E motherboard.

No they are not necessary. They dont work very well at all. Especially the heat spreaders. The companies put them on there so that the ram looks flashy.

They are only necessary when you're pushing heavy voltage through it. (Talking about 3.0V+)

Agreed. Unless youre overclocking and overvolting, then they may help very slightly. I have em and they dont do much except look purty.

Just make sure they get some good airflow from somewhere epecially when pushing them.

Even then its better not to have heat spreaders. All they do is trap the heat with the crappy thermal pad. It is much better to have no heat spreaders and put a fan blowing ont he ics.

Or you can actually use ramsinks with AS5, but that takes the fun out of it ;)

Who said I used a thermal pad? I use AS5 epoxy with AS5 in a 50/50 mixture.

Yeah, ram doesn't get that hot.
However, the "platinum" spreaders on my sticks do look quite attractive.

The heatspreaders and LEDs on Corsair's XPERT line are just as gorgeous and fun. :)

Ok, thanks for the replies everybody. I'm not doing over-volting on my RAM, probably no overclocking (don't want to ruin $1200 of RAM and CPU), and Antec's P-180 is supposed to be designed with decent airflow in mind.

Glad to save a few bucks...
