ram heatsinks falling off 290

My friend got an r9 290 and replaced the stock cooler with a Gelid icy vision cooler. The ram heatsinks keep falling off because they make you re-use the stock thermal pads. is there any sort of thermal compound/sticky pad he can use on the ram chips to make the heatsinks stick?

edit; actually the ram ones stayed on, it was the vrm heatsinks that fell off, but still need solution

You'll want to look for thermal tape and/or pads. There's a number of options available in varying quality.

Gelid's VRM heatsink is quite good but the tape that comes with it is crap. But you can avoid all that by using zip ties, look at the screw holes top and bottom of VRM1 (the row of 6/6), zip tie the heatsink down, use some thermal paste on each VRM and you're good.

it was actually the vrm's not ram (my bad), is it the same solution though?
VRMs are a bit more problematic due to how hot they get. I'm honestly not sure what the best solution is there (but I'm sure some of the others do).

I can vouch for this solution. Using Fujipoly Premium thermal pads work as well if you smush the 1mm thick pads down so it adheres.
