Girl I know wants a real basic, cheap computer for downloading mp3's, movie's, etc..
I was thinking:
$185 Soltek barebones w/ NF2
$25 ASUS CD-RW
$25 ASUS DVD-ROM
$94 160gb Hitachi
$45 Sempron 2200+ (Doesn't seem like she'd benfit from a $130 Athlon XP 3000+, right?)
Any comments on this is fine, but the main question I have is about the RAM. I've heard stories about cheap RAM not working well with nForce2 IGP boards. Can someone go into greater detail? When I've built system's in the past I've used kingston hyper x 2700, but a pair of those is $115, whereas a pair of some cheaper stuff is only $85. Don't want to spend extra money if I don't have to.
What RAM have you guys used in these boards? Success or no? Any particular thoughts on "pgi TURBO series" or "OCZ Premie Value"?
And is 512mb enough for general use? One thing that irritates me slightly is one your computer gets "hung up" for a little while for no reason, i.e. after you've been in a single program for a long time and then want to get out. Would 1gb help issues like those?
