I live in Canada and i'm going to be switching to a Granite Bay motherboard in the next week, but i'm a little confused about what kind of RAM i need. I've heard that it isn't too difficult to hit 3.06Ghz using a P4 2.4B w/C1 core stepping so i planned on buying that processor and then overclocking. However, i've also heard that you need good quality RAM like Corsair, etc. This RAM is like double the price of the Generic type for me. Is the Corsair RAM with heat spreaders, etc. really necessary for this overclock from 2.4 to 3.06 or won't i know until i actually try it? The generic type is usually something like Micron or Samsung brand.

Thanks

To hit 3 ghz with a 2.4b you'll need pc2700 running at 1:1 ratio.

So I would just get 2X Samsung sticks of pc2700 because here in canada Corsair costs almost 2X the price or regular ram & it's not worth it in my opinion.

I live in Canada. Here is a link to get "dual channel" PC3500 EL OCZ sticks. The ram store has free xpress shipping. They are 2 sticks while bigfoot sells them individually.I can give you 3 links in Canada to Corsair ram but its pricey and the dual channel sticks will be even more.

Not to rain on your party, but its not a given you will hit 3Ghz with a 2.4b c1. Need some luck.
