RAM for dell vostro

I am looking at the Vostro 1500. In the way I have it equipped, it only has 1 gb of ram (2 dimm) and I am clearly wanting do do much more.

The question I have is this....will any laptop ddr2 RAM work for it? I assume it is 200-pin.

Also, does anyone know what the maximum supported RAM is for that notebook? Would it be ok to buy 2 x 2gb sticks?

The specs on the Dell website say up to DDR2 667 and 4 gb. I have heard others say DDR2 800 is max, but I am unsure of this.

I'm pretty sure that the mobile chipset does not support DDR2 667. It does support up to 4GB, but using that much ram is a waste of money.

The OP would be better off buying 2x1GB of DDR2 667 or 1x1GB DDR2 667 and 1x2GB DDR2 667 (which would give you dual-channel on the first 1GB of the 2GB stick). 4GB might still have an addressing issue on the Santa Rosa chipset.

I would just go with 1x2GB since this whole dual channel deal has minimal effect these days and you get to use another 512MB.

Yea, the chipset does not support DDR2-800 RAM, even though that is the FSB.
