i am thinking about buying a stick of ram that is a 256 mb pc2100 cl2 ddr sodimm from a compaq laptop that has never been used. I am purchasing a new Dell laptop that I would be putting it in. Would this work? THX for any help!!!

maybe / maybe not. might need 2700, or the SODIMM might be too big / too thick to fit the space in the Dell.

you could try google too.
 
If you have the Service Tag from the Dell check on their website under support, it should tell you what you need.
