I'm not sure where to go from here. My bro's ram (only 1 of 2 sitcks) died the other day (or so we think). We tried running memtest and the PC kept saying "error while trying to read the CD, press ctrl+alt+delete to restart"....

The cd's aren't the problem, so what could be? Thanks.

Alright, we don't have any thumb-drives but before I run down and pick one up - is there anyway that the ram can effect this? Also, is it better to run with both sticks of ram in? Again he has a total of 2 sticks, he's been using the working one for about a week now without any problems other than slower loading times.

yes it could, could also be ram socket, the mobo and many other things, you have to start somewhere, remove any hardware that isnt needed and start testing.

If you tried running memtest with a suspected bad ram and the program will not run, it's obvious you have a bad ram. You should have isolated the cause by testing the rams one stick at a time. The bad ram is the one that will not let the system ran memtest. Instead of getting a thumb drive go get another stick of ram.
