In english.....i have an MSI Neo4 Diamond Motherboard.....all 4 slots work but cant get all on 2 dual channels....

anyway by mistake ordered a crucial 512 mb stick and it was double sided......

put with my 512 single sided it works in dual channel......

Q......should i return for single sided or just keep it?

It doesn't matter. RAM is RAM. The memory controller abstracts away whether or not it is double-sided, dual/single-channel, etc.

If it works, don't worry about it. I'm a little surprised it runs dual-channel with one single-sided and one double-sided stick, but hey, thumbs up to AMD for a robust memory controller design.

Matthias,

thanks for that....basically i have a problem reading all sticks...

i have 2x512 (1 - single sided, 1 double sided)
and 2x256's (all single sided)

all slots work (tested) but cant get a 1 1/2 gb reading only 1gb?

All i know is in CPUZ program it says dual channel

If you put 2x512 on one channel, and 2x256 on the other, it *should* work (although maybe it won't if you're mixing double- and single-sided RAM; that's definitely nonstandard). If you put 1x512 + 1x256 on each channel, it probably won't work, or you might just see the RAM in the "first" slots (the 2x512). Which way did you try it?

I have tried everything and been speaking to Crucial for help

basically i started with 3 sticks of ram from my motherboard -

2 256mb pc2700 333ddr
1 512mb pc2700 333ddr
all single sided....

tried every combo in new motherboard (neo4 diamond MSI) but only read 768.
So i bought a 128 (same spec) thinking the other 256 might read as they needed pairing....

it didnt work and crucial advised trying a similar 512 stick..,...

got it today and it was double sided........tried it.....and combos with 256's and only read a max of 1024mb on CPUZ program....it appears all slots are working ok on motherboard.......

So now my dilemna is how to get 256's to work....will they....do i need to make any changes manually in Bios and should i risk returning the 512 double sided and get a single sided and hope it works dual channel and brings about the 256;s working.......

arggghhhhh complicated eh!

anyway performance in Dual is amazing and games run soooo well

It should just work if you put them in the right channels... it's based on what slots they're in. Consult the documentation for your MB and it should tell you. It's possible that running with mixed memory sizes AND mixed single/double sided is just not going to work. I don't know of anyone that's tried that.

It's generally not all that much of a performance boost; if it works in single-channel, it will probably still run fast.

Yeah, I'd try that. Definitely worth a shot.
