Ram diesel

What do you all think about the diesel in the new Ram 1500? I can't find much info on the web. I'm wondering if an Italian diesel is worth owning? I can't recall a single Italian made anything that had a reputation for durability.

New one, I indeed have no comment or personal experience. Hopefully Dodge went with a good motor, because their Cummins motors carried them big time through bad transmissions, poor interiors, and generally bad fit and finish for a long time.

The folks at Banks seem to think so. They figure on getting as much as 600 HP out of them in race trim.
I am so tempted, but will keep my wits about me. I have no desire to be an early adopter.

Sure as hell the new diesel won't be anywhere near the power plant that Cummins makes, but if it will run for 300k, that would be good enough.

I have a 12 valve 96 dodge for towing things. I do enjoy the power and dependability of the engine, but this new V6 fills a niche between light engines and the Cummins.
My engine weighs 950 pounds dry.
This V6 is just under 500 pounds.

It's not like Fiat handed RAM the engine last week. Look into its development, read about it on Allpar, etc. It's a good engine.

Have any of you seen it in dealers yet? I thought it was coming out a little later in the Fall? Have any of you driven the Jeep Grand Cherokee with this engine? Diesel is intriguing for my 80-mile round trip commute. But haven't been able to make myself do it yet.

I heard October-ish when I looked at the trucks in July.
8 speed auto plus air suspension plus crew cab = nice!

Production date cudos to spp of the Ramforumz. Only seeing this because I'm interested in a 2014 Laramie RAM 1500 4x4 6.4CC Hemi/3.92 with air to replace the Expedition.

"Current statuses from the systems I see (all production dates, not necessarily order dates...):

-Early October for the diesel
-Mid-January fro the 4x2 quad cab diesel
-Mid-January for 4x4 quad + diesel + air
-Unknown for 4x2 quad/crew long bed + air
-Early January for diesel + TXN tires (265/70 all terrains...)
-Mid-January for diesel + 3.92

All the other 1500 restrictions are color or fleet related. The 2500/3500 have a ton of restrictions that are all over the map."

The most desired combo, diesel/8spd/3.92, isn't going into build until middle January, so that coveted truck most likely won't be visible at dealers until mid-end Feb.

IIRC, the last Jeep VM Motori engine was not a good engine. The Liberty CRD 4 cylinder turbo diesel. But that is just from memory.
