1. problems posting
2. found out one of my sticks is bad
3. ? my question

I have Crucial 10th anniversary DDR2-667 2GB ( 1GBx2 ) it's limited edition stuff. I don't understand why it would just die is it normal? I've never had a stick of ram die on me. I never put more voltage into it than stock ( 2.2V ). I guess I just RMA it but my main question is what are they going to replace it with? they don't make this ram anymore. Is it possible they would repair it for me?

I just RMAd a stick of ram to Crucial. It was the standard Ballistix though. If they don't make the anniversary ram anymore, maybe you could ask them to put the heat spreaders from the anniversary ram onto whatever they replace it with. You'll have to send both sticks back to them since they came in a set. I had them send me the ram in advance with a charge on my credit card so I wouldn't be out a computer for a couple of weeks.

I recently rma'd my high end corsair with the led's and they didn't have any to replace it with. They tried to get me to accept lower grade memory and I refused. After going round and round with them for several weeks they decided to offer me a refund if I can provide a receipt which I did immediately after they told me that. Now I'm playing the waiting game to get my money so I can buy something else. Now I realize that you said you have crucial however if they don't have any of the same kind of sticks don't accept a lower grade like corsair tried to get me to take. If they don't have the same or better perhaps they'll give you a refund.

I've read at least one other poster having a problem with that exact same ram. Crucial didn't have any left and was trying to send him some lower rated stuff. I can't find the thread, and don't know the final outcome.

N/M There he is.

Good luck, they were pretty easy to deal with for my RMA, but mine was pretty straight forward, your problem is a little bit different.

Please update the thread when you find out how they're going to handle things. It's situations like yours when you really find out how good a companies customer service is.

on the phone with them now looks like they want to swap it out with this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146567

they claim it's the same memory module I tried to push for better but they won't give me better :( this stuff better not be bad

so far everything is looking good I can do cross shipping where I order the memory than it comes and I ship off the memory I have and they refund my money.

Keep you guys posted

edit: I am gonna try to get this:
http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?imodule=BL2KIT12864AA1065

it seems like it's cheaper than what there giving me but it's DDR2 1066 compared to my DDR2-667 which wasn't bad because the stuff I had was known to be good. I don't know if I can say the same about the stuff there trying to give me.

That kind of sucks that you'll lose your anniversary heat spreaders :( . I wonder if they'd send them back to you if you asked?

I am guessing they would but if I was to change the heat spreaders I'd be voiding the warranty. It's just heat spreaders so I don't really care as long as I don't get ones with LED's :p

I am gonna read some reviews on this memory there trying to give me if I find out it's not as good I am gonna push for the other stuff I linked.

The memory they're sending you is the same as what you had. The only difference is that they have the standard heat spreaders.

the stuff I bought was known to overclock very well which is one reason I bought it this stuff may be different as it's made at a different time.

Crucial is usually pretty good about RMA's, but the best customer service experience I've had with a RAM maker has been with Mushkin ... I had a couple rounds of problems with a 2gb DDR2-1000 Redline kit that I purchased from Newegg & they offered me a choice of a brand-new replacement of the identical stuff, a set of 1066mhz, a 100% refund of my original purchase price or credit for the same amount towards a 4gb PC6400 matched kit which is what I ultimately went for.

Most importantly they really went above & beyond the call of duty to make sure I got taken care of & to tell me how sorry they were for the trouble I was having ... as far as I'm concerned they now have a customer for life as a result.

The RAM they've offered to send you has exactly the same IC's on it as the 10th anniversary edition has. The only difference is that these aren't hand-picked, like the IC's on the 10th anniversary's are.

hopefully I get a good set than? still I don't like the idea of a chance which is why I wanted the 10th anniversary. I am going to talk to them more see what I can work out.

Kidding aside, call Crucial; they offer a lifetime warranty and they should send you a replacement.

No big deal, just wait five more years and you will find them selling a different set of anniversary memory dimms.

maybe they will sell me the 15th anniversary kit early :p I wonder if I can get them to hand pick the stuff since essentially the stuff I had before as handpicked than it'd be a fair trade.

Crucial 10th Anniversary former owner calling in.

I had the exact same problem about two months ago; for little to no apparent reason my RAM went pear-shaped. I never gave it anything over 2.2V, but I still got 2908759359869876600 memtest errors after running it for 4 hours. I emailed Crucial to say I had memory errors in memtest and that I had it all at stock settings (well, the second time I ran memtest, anyway, and I still got a hojillion errors) and the customer support emailed me back with an RMA number. I sent the RAM back to them by next-day delivery, and in five days I had a new pair of Crucial Ballistix DDR2-667s, vanilla. I was worried they'd not be as good as my previous handpicked 10th anniversary, but they're doing great and overclocking to the same level. The only thing I'm sad about it losing the sweet blue/silver 10th anniversary heatspreaders! :)

Thanks for that Roguestar for reassuring me. I am guessing you didn't do the cross-ship? I think I may do that so I don't have to go without a computer even though 5 days isn't that bad. I read on Newegg customer reviews someone posted they had the same problem as us. (may be you)

Crucial was supposed to call me back after the issues with there system were fixed but I have yet to receive a call from them. I'd like to get this fixed as soon as possible

well they didn't call yesterday or today so I called them again looks like I can't get anything better than the DDR2-667. customer support was very helpful and good but the technical RMA guy didn't help me at all. I was hoping to get better memory than this but he said that is all he could give me no choices or anything....

Actually, I should point out that as usual they sent them back to me by next-day delivery; I'd only have been out of a PC for three days but I got them sent to my mum's house as I'm moving out of my crappy student accomodation in the summer, and had to go back to hers to pick them up :p.

get this

Crucial thought it would be ok to charge $413.74 to my card. They claim that is what the Crucial 10th anniversary ram I had was worth when it was discontinued. they are sending me ram that is worth $113.99 it is non-10th anniversary how are they charging me THAT much for this memory.

link to what they are sending me I could buy 3 of these kits and still have money left over for what they charged me.

this is absolute madness if this doesn't get resolved I WILL NEVER buy from Crucial again in my life. I will likely take this even to the courts.

here is my conversation with there live chat.

Hello, my name is Darcy . How may I help you?
James Rasmussen: Hi, I was wondering if I was going to get a tracking number for my RMA.
James Rasmussen: I am also wondering why I was charged $413.74 for my memory cross-order RMA.
James Rasmussen: I know that memory isn't worth that much
James Rasmussen: right here on your site it proves it. http://www.crucial.com/store/p...odule=BL2KIT12864AA663
Darcy : One moment, please, while I review your inquiry.
Darcy : What is the RMA number?
James Rasmussen: ( my RMA number )
Darcy : The tracking number for your replacement order is ( my tracking number )
James Rasmussen: thanks
Darcy : We issued you a credit on the 1st of June for the full amount.
Darcy : If there is nothing further I can assist you with, I?d like to thank you for visiting Crucial.com. Have a great day.
James Rasmussen: why would you charge $413.74 to my card
James Rasmussen: when the product is like $120 + SH + tax is still no where near that
Darcy : We charged for the price of the product at the time of purchase.
James Rasmussen: in fact on your site after adding to my card and doing the estimated shipping and tax it'sUS $125.81
Darcy : The credit has already been issued. That is how we set up our cross ships.
James Rasmussen: you charged for the price of the product on the time of purchase what are u talking about
James Rasmussen: it was this same price when you charged it
James Rasmussen: it didn't change from $413.74 to $125.81 in a couple of days.
Darcy : Sorry, I did not realize your where a 3rd party customer.
James Rasmussen: this is DIRECTLY from your website
Darcy : Did the representative not explain to you how the process works when you called in to set up the RMA?
James Rasmussen: she did but she did not say they were going to charge $413.74 to my card.
James Rasmussen: when the memory itself is no where near that price
James Rasmussen: I could buy the same memory 3 times for $371.46
James Rasmussen: how do u get away with charging $413.74 for ONE kit
Darcy : Sir, the amount has already been charged and credited. I am not sure what you would like me to do at this time.
James Rasmussen: I would like to know WHY
Darcy : That is the price for the Ten Year modules and we not longer make them.
James Rasmussen: It was NOT the price for the ten year modules and YOU ARE NOT sending me 10 year modules
James Rasmussen: so it doesn't even matter
James Rasmussen: your charging me for 10 year modules when your sending me memory worth $113.99
James Rasmussen: that isn't 10 year modules
Darcy : When we quit making the modules the price for each with Crucial was 191.99.
Darcy : You bought these from someone else.
James Rasmussen: okay now lets say that your correct about the pricing for the 10 year modules.
James Rasmussen: the fact is that your NOT SENDING me 10 year modules your sending me modules worth $113.99
James Rasmussen: as you said you stopped making the 10 year modules.
Darcy : Ok, I see your point. But the fact of the matter is, that we have already charged you and credited you back.
James Rasmussen: I'd like to talk to a supervisor
James Rasmussen: via phone
James Rasmussen: you've been helpful and I understand it's not your fault. the fact is this is ridiculous and I can't let it stand.
Darcy : I can transfer this chat to my supervisor, his name is Patrick.
James Rasmussen: Please do Thanks
Darcy : If there is nothing further I can assist you with, I?d like to thank you for visiting Crucial.com. Have a great day.
James Rasmussen: same to you
Patrick has entered the session.
James Rasmussen: Hi, is this a supervisor?
Patrick : Yes
James Rasmussen: Hi, I am having a problem with how much you guys charged me on my cross-over shipment for the RMA.
Patrick : I am reading over the prior conversation.
Patrick : One moment, please, while I review your inquiry.
Patrick : Our price for the part at the time of the RMA request was 191.99
James Rasmussen: what part?
James Rasmussen: the 10th anniversary or the ram your actually sending me?
Patrick : TY12864AA663
Patrick : Tenth Anniversary
James Rasmussen: ok but your not sending me that memory at all
James Rasmussen: how can your charge me for that memory when your not sending me it
James Rasmussen: this is the ram your sending me http://www.crucial.com/store/p...odule=BL2KIT12864AA663
James Rasmussen: it's worth $113.99 and with shipping and tax the estimated is US $125.81
James Rasmussen: but your charging me $413.74
Patrick : One moment, please, while I review your inquiry.
Patrick : They are the same part, they are just under different packaging
Patrick : You were charged the same price you were credited.
James Rasmussen: that has nothing to do with it
Patrick : The is no loss of money on this transaction.
James Rasmussen: your charging me for stuff your not sending me
James Rasmussen: yes there is
James Rasmussen: I am losing the money from my account until I get it back
Patrick : Both parts have the same specs
James Rasmussen: would it be ok to take $413.74 from your account and give it back to your in lets say 10 days?
James Rasmussen: they may be the same specs but they are priced very differently.
Patrick : Both parts are 1GB parts that run at the same speed.
James Rasmussen: I know this
James Rasmussen: the fact that your charged me $413.74 for memory that is worth $113.99
James Rasmussen: your not sending me the stuff that was worth $413.74
James Rasmussen: there completely different model #'s
Patrick : We also credited you 413.74 .
James Rasmussen: correction we will also credit you $413.74 back
James Rasmussen: you have not don't so yet
James Rasmussen: when my memory gets returned than days after that
Patrick : We issued credit on 6/1/07.
James Rasmussen: what is your point
James Rasmussen: your telling me stuff that is irrelevant
James Rasmussen: example: this is 1GB stick, this is the same specs, this is repackaged.
Patrick : I apologize for your frustration, but we have credited you back for the memory and sent you a replacement.
James Rasmussen: you've sent me the $413.74 back?
James Rasmussen: you've took $413.74 from my account and sent me memory worth $125.81
James Rasmussen: you have not sent me any money back all you've done is taken
Patrick : One moment, please, while I review your inquiry.
James Rasmussen: I want $287.93 sent to my account
James Rasmussen: $413.74 - $125.81 = $287.93
Patrick : We have credited $413.74 back to your card. I can send you a copy of the invoice if you would like.
James Rasmussen: ok so when I send my faulty memory back I won't be getting any money back but I will already have it?
James Rasmussen: and yes I'd like to see the invoice please ( acts like I never said this )
Patrick : Are you saying you have not sent back the memory?
James Rasmussen: yes, I am saying it's still in my computer I am awaiting delivery on the memory you've sent
James Rasmussen: when I get the memory you've sent I will send the faulty memory back.
Patrick : You are correct. The invoice I have is for the replacement. We will credit you back the full amount when we receive it back.
Patrick : I apologize for the error.
James Rasmussen: no, I want $287.93 sent ASAP
Patrick : We will not credit anything until we get the memory back.
James Rasmussen: as I previously said : James Rasmussen: $413.74 - $125.81 = $287.93
James Rasmussen: the 125.81 is how much the ram actually cost you guys to send me
Patrick : That is todays price.
James Rasmussen: what is todays price?
James Rasmussen: it was the same price as before
James Rasmussen: I am not asking for any more money back than what you guys sent me
James Rasmussen: I am paying what I actually should by doing this
Patrick : You were charged the price at the time you purchased the 10th anniversary.
James Rasmussen: no, I bought it 3rd party
James Rasmussen: didn't pay anywear near that
James Rasmussen: I bought it from a dealer Newegg
James Rasmussen: I bought it for $229.99
Patrick : That was our price. You requested a cross ship at the time you called and we used our price for that day for the tenth anniversary. ( lol how are you going to charge me for something your not actually sending me? in fact your sending me stuff way cheaper )
Darcy has left the session.
James Rasmussen: but your not sending me 10th stuff
James Rasmussen: so how can you charge me for 10th stuff
James Rasmussen: listen I am done with this
Patrick : We sent you the equivalent part in ballsitix and will credit you the same amount when you return it.
James Rasmussen: I want you to credit me for what I asked which is a fair settlement
Patrick : If you will give me a contact number, I will see if there is anything I can do.
Patrick : We will need the memory back before we can do anything.
James Rasmussen: you charged my card $413.74 for stuff that is worth $125.81 I want the difference back which is $287.93
James Rasmussen: ( my phone number ) is my contact #
James Rasmussen: I will not let this stand and if you do not credit my fair settlement back I will be faced to take this much further than this.
Patrick : What is your e-mail address?
James Rasmussen: ( my email )
James Rasmussen: this should all be in your guys database anyways
James Rasmussen: I've told you guys it 3 times now
Patrick : I will make some calls and get back to you in the next 24 hours with an answer.
James Rasmussen: okay, If I do not receive an answer or my settlement I will see Crucial in court.
Patrick : If there is nothing further I can assist you with, I?d like to thank you for visiting Crucial.com. Have a great day.
James Rasmussen: same to you

I hope you have learned a lesson: Never buy "Collectible Sh*t" that will never be collectible and will lose value. 10th anniversary RAM was a pure marketing gimmick. The premium you paid was for the fancy heat spreader that is worth virtually NIL. Just like a rare car, anniversary RAM is a limited production product and once production ceases, no new units will be available for replacement when it breaks. In other words, that fancy Mercedes Gull Wing you wrecked will need to be replaced with a lesser value SLR or S600.

What you paid is almost irrelevant, all technology looses value at a very RAPID rate. Yesterdays $1,100 Extreme Edition Processor is tomorrows budget Celeron. Two to Three years ago, 1 GB of ram (512 x 2) would have cost you $400+ (USD) and if it were sent in under a warranty RMA, they would in return send you a part valued at less than $70 (USD). Get used to and understand the fact that none of this stuff is worth anything after a small period of time.

that's besides the point they were charging me for 10th anniversary and sending me non-10th anniversary but still charging me for the cost of the 10th anniversary memory. I received my memory today so I am back to 2GB weird thing is the 10th anniversary heat spreader was on it. I just need to send my memory back and they will refund me the money it's just the fact that they charged my card with way more than the memory was actually worth. I should be getting a call from them within 24hrs.

so right now I am so so with them depending on what they do to get this issue fixed will name there final outcome. all I know is the agents that I spoke to were very irritating they kept saying stuff over and over again and saying irrelevant stuff like in the message. I may be hesitant to buy memory from them again.
